Admissions

Admission Procedures - Early Childhood Education (ECE)

It is recommended that you begin the admissions process by visiting an Open House or attending a campus tour. Families are invited to attend the Open House with their children. Campus tours are held during the school day and are for parents only. Contact the Oakwood admissions office at admissions@oakwoodmh.org or (408) 782-7177 x104 to attend a tour.

Oakwood offers the following ECE programs:

  • 2-day Preschool for children turning three by November 30th
  • 3-day Preschool for children turning three by September 30th
  • 5-day Preschool for children turning three by September 30th
  • Junior Kindergarten for children turning four by November 30th
  • Kindergarten for children turning five by November 30th

Although Oakwood will accept students who meet birth date requirements listed above, it is strongly encouraged that parents of children with fall birthdays consider waiting to enroll their child as an older member of their class, rather than the youngest. Years of experience has shown tremendous benefits of such a choice. It is also encouraged that parents of preschool children with summer birthdays select the 2-day preschool program.

Applications are accepted beginning in December for the following school year. Applications for mid-year transfer students are considered throughout the year, but are generally discouraged in the final two months of the school year.

Applications are submitted with a non-refundable $50 fee to the Admissions Office which will then schedule a parent interview with the Principal. There is no formal student assessment for Preschool and Jr. Kindergarten applicants; however their attendance at the parent interview is required.

Students applying to Kindergarten at Oakwood must meet age requirements and be assessed for kindergarten readiness with a 45-minute evaluation administered by an Oakwood teacher and accompanied by a parent. There is no additional charge for these assessments when completed during the school year, however, students seeking admission during the summer months will be scheduled for testing with an Oakwood teacher for which a $100 summer assessment fee is required in addition to the application fee.

Applicants for new student enrollment received by the end of January will generally receive their notice by mid-march. Students enrolling at other times should receive notice within 2-4 weeks after the interview and any needed assessment.

Application forms are available on this website or by contacting the Admissions Office at admissions@oakwoodmh.org or (408) 782-7177 x104.
